يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاء تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِالْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا بِمَا جَاءكُم مِّنَ الْحَقِّ يُخْرِجُونَ الرَّسُولَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَن تُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ رَبِّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ خَرَجْتُمْ جِهَادًا فِي سَبِيلِي وَابْتِغَاء مَرْضَاتِي تُسِرُّونَ إِلَيْهِم بِالْمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِمَا أَخْفَيْتُمْ وَمَا أَعْلَنتُمْ وَمَن يَفْعَلْهُ مِنكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَاء السَّبِيلِ
O you who feel secure [do you know how a human like you can feel safe? it is when:] you do not take my enemies and your enemies as your friends [and I am telling you this because you DO do this..check yourself and confirm or reject this claim], showing them affection while [you love them in a way that] they negate the truth that comes to you [through them]. [and you know how they negate the truth? it is because you read/understand them in a way that] they drive out the messenger and yourselves [i.e. your own wellbeing] away from finding safety in GOD as your Sustainer! [because you try to find safety in those things themselves]. If and when you struggle in a path that leads to me and you seek [in the things you love] what my pleasure/will is for you, then [you can find no harm in ] inclining towards them [the things you love] in affection: for it is with my knowledge [and possession of everything beautiful] that you secretly and openly [desire and love things]. And any of you who does this [loving things without seeing the truth about their source, God, they bring to you], indeed such a one walks a wrong path [i.e. a path that leads one to love what one simultaneously experiences as a harmful/enemy].
Since i have already put so much of my interpretation into the translation, i am not going to say too much more and just let it stand. i’ll come back to this later.
