interestingly

no concept in the Quran for islamic history; none for tradition, let alone islamic tradition, in a postive sense; none for religion; none for non-muslims; none for conversion to islam; none for taking shahada; no shahada as a formula to recite for any purposel no five pillars; none for schools of law or law; none for hadith other than for the quran itself; none for seerah; none for anyone being born into any religion; none for the muslim world; none for brotherhood of muslims; none for state; none for aqeedah; none for islamic education; none for muslim names or islamic ethics; none for raising kids in an islamic way; none for islam being a way of life; none for identity; none for islamic or muslim culture; none for marriage as some kind of contract or ritial or ceremony; none for islamic philosophy; none for mysticism; none for any relation between going to school or college or having a degree or having read philosophy or many books and truth; none for ritual; none for conversion; and so many other fictions that people can’t seem to live without and deem absolutely necessary or useful in their lives.

once i honestly go to revelation as a human being, a living being with consiousness and language and fears and hopes and reason and needs for justice and beauty and wisdom and life and with questions about these very same needs that seem to be utterly denied by the way the world seems to be (with death and injustice and cruelty and unwisdom), it starts to speak to that human being and in ways that does not produce new oppressions and problems (in the way the many concepts I have noted above produce).

people come to the quran to learn islam and they bring a huge number of concepts with them – which is not a problem – and then they leave with those same concepts (and more, because you need a lot more then you may bring to get the religion of Islam out of the Quran) – and that is a huge loss.

my view is that anyone who brings a blemish to the unblemished truth (subhan Allah) revelation offers, by constructing a lifeworld and discourse with meaningless and problematic concepts (rationally problematic i.e. ones aql does not accept and ethically problematic i.e. ones that put a stain on wisdom and compassion) of their own making and of what they heard from others, should be prepared to account for those blemishes before the One without blemish. until such time, to each the way that they choose.
